The number of people living in the private rented sector has trebled in the last 20 years meanwhile the private rents have gone up by double the rate of inflation each year across the central belt of Scotland. COVID-19 will only increase the pressure on people's rent costs.
 
It is time for the law to be changed and introduce a cap on annual private sector rent increases.  Scottish Labour’s Pauline McNeill has lodged a Bill to do just that, but the Tories and SNP have joined forces to block these plans.
